For decades, glasses and soft contact lenses were designed with one clear objective: improve eyesight. They corrected blurred vision effectively but did little to influence how myopia progressed over time. As childhood myopia becomes increasingly common across many parts of the world, researchers are exploring solutions that go beyond temporary vision correction.
One approach attracting considerable clinical interest is orthokeratology.
Unlike conventional contact lenses worn throughout the day, orthokeratology lenses are worn overnight. While the patient sleeps, the specially designed lenses gently reshape the cornea. The following morning, the lenses are removed, allowing many users to see clearly during the day without glasses or contact lenses.
