GET ON FIRE FOR A SIZZLING YEAR!

Who can’t remember the kid’s game when a prize is hidden by a chosen participant and other players would be seeking that hidden prize? The member moving closest to the unseen item would hear the designated facilitator yell, “getting hot, getting hotter!”  Then the discovery!  The prize is found!  A WINNER!  Well, did this year bring you to your prize? Did you get what you really wanted from your life in 2011?  If you are still kindling a little spark, how many years will go by before you actually get what you want? If you are doing something that is not working and continue, guess what that is called? CRAZY MAKING! If you’re serious about getting on the hot track and leaving cold or warm behind, here is an opportunity to put a plan together to ignite a blazing New Year. Let this be the year that you put it all together and SIZZLE like you’ve never sizzled before. Here are four steps to guide you into 2012 . . .

 1. ASSESS THE PAST YEAR: Get away and spend a few days alone to assess and create an outline of what you just went through in 2011. Evaluate and determine honestly what were the thinking, your feelings, and behaviors during both the high and low points of each month? Do more of the “high peaks” for success this coming New Year.  Describe for yourself a theme year.  Write in a journal the kind of year you specifically want to experience. Visualizing and pre-planning for a successful year is a powerful strategy for you to ignite the flames.

 2. ASSESS YOUR CURRENT VALUES: You begin to draw closer to what you want when you have clarity of your values as they apply to your abilities. As you get in touch specifically with what is important to you (unconsciously) they consciously get expressed in words, then move toward action. Your values are the root cause for your desires and motivation; it’s that motivation that draws you closer to your prize and fuels the fire to get hot.

 3. ASSESS YOUR HIGHEST RESOURCES: It’s up to each of us to go into action to create our desired outcomes. We must put energy into finding our greatest resources, which really are everywhere. These steps give birth to what is called the “Law of Attraction” or cause and effect? Know that you get what you focus on first, with clear focus your prize will draw toward you. Outline what you need in resources. Is it time, support, money, education; and what current resources do you have before you? Tapping into resources gets you hotter.

 4. ASSESS YOUR FUTURE: Write out five (5) specific items you wish to achieve this year. Take the accomplishments from last year and use them as a base to build upon. Draw from your vision of the life you want and crystallize it into concrete and specific goals. Write in the present tense as if you have received what you want already. Combine your past success, clarify you values, outline your resources, set goals and taking action will bring forth your prize for 2012. Have a sizzling New Year!

How to Identify Your Purpose with Endings

Well, here we go again, another end to a calendar year. This quite possibly could be the most important part to every year. It is not so much the beginning but the end that we must clearly enhance our focus. For what reason? Because change always begins with an ending. Are you ready to close out this year and prepare for changing into something new? We all have endings and they are different for everyone. Some people dread endings, however, when we consider this as a pathway to new beginnings we can then identify benefits for greater life purpose.  Ponder on these four (4) benefits to endings and see if your ending can lead you on a new positive path and greater life purpose for the coming New Year:

  1. PONDER THIS: Most people are caught off guard when it comes to an ending. In fact, they tell themselves a story about wanting to return to the way it was. The reality is, it will never be the way it was! The benefit: This is an opportunity for something new and different.
  2. PONDER THIS: Endings present each of us with an awareness of choices. When we make choices for ourselves whatever they may be it strengthens our resilience. The benefit: We have an opportunity to become wiser with our new knowledge and additional life experience.
  3. PONDER THIS: There are always positive and not so positive feelings after an ending. For the majority a link to fear is present. A powerful question to ask ourselves is, “what would I do if I was completely unafraid?” The benefit: We tend to ask ourselves questions that never were asked before which enable us to look for answers that will lead to results.
  4. PONDER THIS: We will forever be in endings and how you respond, not react, will determine the positive outcomes. The benefit: An opportunity to build on the positive attributes accumulated from last year.

Begin now to create a 12 month action plan and set new goals. Learn how to have great endings as you move toward new beginnings.

Take A Look – What’s Your Calling In Life?

Have you recognized your true calling in life?  I believe everyone has a calling.  Something to be accomplished, something meaningful and purposeful while being alive.

Could there be some truth to what famous author Oliver Wendell Holmes once said “most people go to their graves with their music still inside them.  Not long ago I rented a movie about a young man seeking his calling; he enrolled at Portland State University in the late 60′s  with the intention of studying under a well acclaimed speech professor.  A bit cocky he felt he was a shoe in for the speech program so he auditioned only to hear the professor say “come back when you have something to say.”

The young man wondered later to enter the Army and sent to fight in Vietnam.  Within months a mortar attacked left him partially deaf and in rehab.  He returned home where he encountered ongoing challenges and injustices for being a person with a disability.  That was the moment Robert Pimentel recognized his true calling.

Those early acts of rejection and put-offs by society inspired a burning passion within this young man to have a voice for those that were disabled.  He became a trainer, an author and a national consultant educating society on the dangers of stereotyping.  He later was a influence and leader in formulating the Americans with Disabilities Act.  It was a signed into law in 1990 and the Equal Opportunity Commission publicly congratulated Robert on his mission to educate others on disability.

His pursit of a cuase and recognizing his passion led to a 2007 release of a major motion picture of his life story appropriately names, “Musin Within.”

What is stirring up inside of you?  How has your life experiences made you the person you are today?  Have you listened closely to the music that is playing within?  Commit yourself to respond, you never know how it may lead you to your true calling in life.

4 Ways to Recognize Your Calling

1. Look Back – What were your early dreams in life specifically between 14-21 years old?  What id you want to become?  What go you excited?  How did you want to help the world?  Seek out your resources from your past.

2.  Look Within – What is your inner burning desire?  What makes you happy, fulfilled and accomplished?  What causes are important to you?  Seek out books, training and coaches that help you get greater clarity on knowing yourself.

3. Look Around- What have learned about the environment you have been involved in over the years?  Was it positive and productive?  Seek ways to be an observer of possiblities and get insights into making your environment better.

4. Look Ahead – What is the next two years going to be like for you?  What specific gaols are written down?  How can you make a difference?  Seek ways to move forward by visualizing, goal setting and taking action.

A New Season Is Coming!

Get Ready for Change – Charting your Course!

Whether you are aware of it or not, you are constantly changing.  Just take a moment to follow the season of life.  The challenge is most people are not aware of their changes and end up with limited say so in what happens to them.  In the book, “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson, M.D., he states, “change imposed is change opposed.”  It means people resist change if someone or something is forced upon them.  Why not place yourself in a position to call the shots on your life and changes you want.  Here are four helpful tips to embrace change and determine your own outcome for a New Year.

1.  Reflect – Observe what worked last year.  Make a list of the highs and review your attitude and what helped you accomplish your success.  Duplicate the good of what worked even more.

2. Rebound – Whatever was painful, difficult or a loss, the answer is to rebound.  Let go of the past.  Free yourself from yesterday.  It is time to move into new thoughts and behaviors.  Get back on top of your game.  Its a new season and a whole new year.

3.  Respond- Open yourself to creative possibilities and respond positively to new opportunities.  Make yourself available for growth and development everyday.  I read in Sunday’s paper about a man who looked to have to have a new experience everyday for the rest of this year.  Try it out for yourself.

4.  Record – Be prepared.  Starting today, create a goal and follow it.  Start a journal and write out the event of your life.  Record what you want to change and your plans to make it happen.  Take control of the change that happens in your life.
